Eva is just passing through Madrid. She spends her days there alone: she doesn't know anyone and isn’t particularly interested in getting to know new people. The city is therefore an unfamiliar place where she wanders aimlessly, her curiosity somewhat dampened. But one afternoon, at the Reina Sofía Museum, a man approaches her. His name is Dante and he is an Argentine historian researching labor struggles in his country and the career of Juan Bialet Massé.

“Last year I lived in Madrid thanks to a grant from the Reina Sofía Museum. There, I worked on writing a movie about the history of labor rights in my country. But one day at the museum, they mentioned the possibility of filming right there. Since then, the idea of portraying that place – its architecture, the light, its spaces, and the life it fosters – has been on my mind. That is how Sadness sometimes, Other Times Revolt began to emerge: a film that is a detour and a concatenation. In Eva, the desire to give continuity to a character from a previous feature film materializes. In Dante, our days in Madrid are mirrored: the time at the museum, life in a city that is not one's own, questions about work, living conditions, and human relationships. Through its materials, we attempt to blur (or perhaps highlight?) the boundaries between cinema and life, between invention and truth. We also seek to examine the open question of working and living conditions in the times we live in.” (María Aparicio)

María Aparicio was born in 1992 in the city of Córdoba, Argentina, where she currently resides. Filmmaker and teacher, she made her directorial debut with Las Calles (2016), followed by Sobre las nubes (2022) and Las cosas indefinidas (2023). These films were screened at many international festivals and exhibitions, winning multiple awards.
