AFRICA CALLS
African and Italian University educational programs in audiovisual languages
Giornate degli Autori hosts the first conference devoted to Italian and African projects involving education in the field of film and audiovisual media. The event aims to consolidate relationships between Italian and African film schools after roughly six years of a fruitful collaboration in this area. Italian film professionals have been brought in as teachers in Ethiopia, Mozambique, and South Africa, while at least a dozen African students have taken part in juries and masterclasses at Italian film festivals, thanks to the support of Italian institutions such as MAECI, MIC, and UNIMED (the network of circa 180 universities around the Mediterranean and in Europe), as well as the cultural association Controluce e Confartigianato Audiovisivi. What are the next steps? How should a program of education and technological support for African universities be structured in order to guarantee continuity in forming the professionals of the future?
