Friday, September 5th, at noon a talk with Sepideh Farsi dedicated to the late Fatma Hassona
Giornate degli Autori, in collaboration with Bookciak, Azione! and Isola Edipo, is proud to welcome the Iranian director Sepideh Farsi to the Sala Laguna in the Casa degli Autori (Friday, September 5th, at noon), for a talk dedicated to Fatma Hassona, the Palestinian photographer who documented the war from Gaza City from the very beginning of the conflict in 2023, only to be targeted with her entire family in the bombings on April 16th, 2025, one day after the film selection in Cannes was announced.
Fatma Hassona is also the focus of Sepideh Farsi’s documentary Put Your Soul on Your Palm and Walk, which will be distributed in Italy by Wanted.
The talk, moderated by Giorgio Gosetti and Maria Bonsanti, will bear witness to an artist who fought for years for freedom of expression in Iran and for denouncing the horrors of the massacres in Palestine today and crimes wherever the freedom to speak out and the freedom to choose are denied.
Cinema is the art form that surpasses all others as a powerful tool in the resistance against brutality and violence. It is the voice and the gaze to whom we entrust the urgency of stating that another world is possible.
Backing this initiative are EMERGENCY, with its R1PUD1A campaign, with a live link from Reggio Emilia (where Emergency’s “La Voce” festival is taking place from 5 to 7 September) with Eleonora Bruni, midwife of EMERGENCY, who will be giving an account of the situation in Gaza; Articolo 21, in its fight for the protection of the journalists documenting the horrors of war, of which, now more than ever, they are innocent victims; Antonietta De Lillo, Laura Luchetti, Silvia Scola and all filmmakers that join us today in the appeal “From Venice to Gaza.”
