Under the sign of Giorgio Gosetti

Giornate degli Autori have been shaken by the sudden passing of Giorgio Gosetti, founder and General Delegate since 2004 of the independent sidebar promoted by ANAC and 100autori within the Venice International Film Festival. Gosetti was the driving force behind the organization and a fundamental pillar of a team that he personally helped to select and nurture over the course of 23 years. In his multifaceted figure, the Association found a tireless champion of ideas and initiatives, and it was able to grow thanks to his expertise, critical acumen and an innate organizational skill. President Francesco Ranieri Martinotti, Vice President Giacomo Durzi, Honorary President Roberto Barzanti, Artistic Director Gaia Furrer, the Board of Directors and the members of the Association will be forever grateful for the constant and intense dedication with which he shared his gifts.

Gosetti was also very  generous in exercising his many talents:  until his very last day he shared a unique and precious body of knowledge with the organization around him – a set of fundamental best practices for creating future editions of Giornate degli Autori, starting with a 23rd edition that is scheduled from 2 until 12 September 2026.

The cultural project he created together with Roberto Barzanti, Emidio Greco and Francesco Maselli, on the initiative of ANAC and 100autori and in agreement with La Biennale, represents something singular on the international landscape. Giornate degli Autori have distinguished itself earning growing esteem and appreciation from both national and international audiences and press through its ability to identify, nurture, and interpret the voices of contemporary auteur cinema, with a rare attentiveness to the moments of dialogue and exchange that have always found a home within its spaces. Giorgio built a foundation that we now not only commit ourselves to safeguard, but to carry into the future – to renew it and make our own his cultured, passionate, and tireless desire to continuously start afresh in pursuit of discovery, always ahead of his time.”

Giornate degli Autori dedicates this edition to the memory of Giorgio Gosetti, who will be remembered and celebrated throughout the days of the festival.
