The singer-songwriter
Sia, with her string of global hits;
Alice Rohrwacher, winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival for her
The Wonders; and
Stacy Martin, the young French actress and star of the controversial
Nymphomaniac Vol. 1, also in the cast of
Tale of Tales: these are just a few of the international stars who'll be walking the red carpet to take part in the series of talks on the program of
Miu Miu Women's Tales. For the fourth year running, Venice Days has teamed up with its creative partner Miu Miu to host three days of screenings and encounters with women artists.
Two world-renowned filmmakers will be on the Lido this year as guests of Miu Miu Women's Tales at the 72nd Venice Film Festival:
Alice Rohrwacher, with her film
De Djess - accompanied by her sister
Alba who stars in the short - and
Agnès Varda, in Venice for the world premiere of her short film
Les 3 boutons, the tenth in the Women's Tales "collection". The two shorts will be screened on Thursday, September 3 (at 4.30 p.m. in the Sala Perla). The directors will be meeting the press and their fans on September 4 at 11:30 a.m. in the Sala Tropicana at the Hotel Excelsior.
Alongside the filmmakers, other key female figures on the international scene will be on hand to keep things lively during the four "face-to-face" events devoted to women's creativity slated for Friday September 4, and Saturday, September 5 (Sala Tropicana-Istituto Luce Cinecittà, Hotel Excelsior, ground floor). The talks, moderated by Penny Martin, editor of the UK's Gentlewoman Magazine, will be an occasion to hear out actresses Julia Garner, rising star of New York's independent film scene and star of the cult TV series The Americans, among others; Hailee Steinfeld, famous for her role in True Grit by the Coen brothers; and the American comedian and producer Whitney Cummings, known to the public at large for the sitcom named after her, Whitney.
Lastly, in keeping with tradition the series of talks during Miu Miu Women's Tales will wrap up on the afternoon of September 5 with a surprise event to be announced. "We like to leave some room to host women artists at the Venice Film Festival who are struck by our program and decide then and there to be a part of it, sharing their experiences with us," explains Gorgio Gosetti, Venice Days General Delegate.
