Siding with cinema

Since the very first edition, the Italian Society of Authors and Publishers has always considered Venice Days a showcase that celebrates the new frontiers of film and the innovation, experimentation and originality of the best emerging filmmakers in Italy today. It's also a venue where directors, producers, distributors and journalists can meet, swap ideas, share projects and negotiate deals. In fact, Venice Days embodies one of SIAE's chief aims in its own activities in the film industry: that of protecting artists' creativity and intellectual property. The value add Venice Days brings to the Venice Film Festival is its "otherness": its unorthodox take on emerging filmmakers.

This year the SIAE Prize for Innovation goes to the Istituto Luce - Cinecittà, for its active support of documentaries inspired by the Istituto Luce's historic archives. Thanks to the creativity of many filmmakers who represent new Italian cinema today - an example being the event film 9x10 Ninety, which premiered at Venice Days - and other directors who have made innovation their byword, like Ermanno Olmi, Ettore Scola, and Gianni Amelio; not to mention a courageous and ground-breaking editorial policy aimed at preserving and promoting its remarkable heritage of images spanning the entire 20th century, the Istituto Luce - Cinecittà has carved out an unprecedented role in film production and the promotion of new talent.

President and CEO of Istituto Luce - Cinecittà Roberto Cicutto will be on hand to receive the prize; the awards ceremony will be followed by the premiere of Alessandro Rossellini's film Viva Ingrid! in the Sala Perla at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9.
