For the fourth year in a row,
Miu Miu is Venice Days' Creative Partner, and both have a lot to show for it.
The Women's Tales showcase currently totals eight short films directed by women filmmakers of international stature, fixtures at festivals around the world, while an array of talks with film personalities provides first-hand looks at how women in film channel their creativity, as they share their experiences with our audiences.
It's safe to say that this year's edition will include two new shorts, one of which - the ninth in the series - is De Djess directed by Alice Rohrwacher. It's a little gem of a film, in the tradition of the Italian filmmaker's previous feature films Corpo Celeste and The Wonders.
Set in the Hotel Excelsior on the Venice Lido, the film is Rohrwacher's take on the fashion world, as seen through the eyes of an outfit in a new collection. Accordingly, the language spoken by the characters in the film, including the "Divina" played by Alba Rohrwacher, is incomprehensible, a sort of ‘grammelot', or actors' gibberish. Besides the dress, the other leading role is played by Gianetti, a young woman who gracefully extricates herself from her mundane troubles and takes leave of her chaotic social environment, much like Marta in Corpo Celeste and Gelsomina in The Wonders.
See you on the Lido, then, for De Djess and Women's Tales #10, and more close encounters with the women behind the names in Miu Miu's creative universe.
