Copyright today

100autori promotes this debate on the issue of copyright, coordinated by filmmaker Stefano Reali and featuring showrunner Hagai Levi (In Treatment, The Affair). The growing number and longer life cycle of audiovisual works makes it essential to thoroughly reconsider the crucial issue of "creators' rights" in the light of the new copyright laws that are called for and new forms of partaking of the benefits made possible by the myriad ways these works can now be viewed, facilitated by the exponential growth in the demand for content in the digital era.

In this changing landscape, writers and directors are more and more keen to hold on to shares of their intellectual property, both because their creations may have a longer shelf life and be commercialized in more and more territories, and because of the extended uses of the rights for an individual work (sequel, prequel, remake, franchise, spin off, etc.)

Writers and directors believe that they share common ground with producers on this issue, and that a fruitful debate will give rise to innovative new forms of partnership and collaboration so that the crucial phases of negotiation and initial ceding of all rights to broadcasters and digital players may be faced head-on.
